You clear the little terminal, and the first thing that hits you is the light — flat, bright, salt in the air before you've even seen the water. By the time the taxi crests the ridge toward Cable Beach, the sea has already turned that impossible shade, and Nassau stops being a name on a boarding pass.

Good to know
Very. Paradise Island and Cable Beach are built for it — shallow beaches, pools, and Atlantis water parks a short ride away. Groceries, pharmacies, and restaurants are close, which removes a lot of the friction of traveling with kids. Downtown suits families more interested in history and culture than beach days.
Not usually. Fixed-rate taxis, hotel shuttles, and a walkable core mean most visitors skip renting a car, especially on Cable Beach or Paradise Island. Rent one only if you plan to explore the western or southern ends of the island on your own schedule.
Cable Beach for most people — beach, food, and nightlife within walking distance and a range of rental prices. Choose Paradise Island for a family or a splurge, and downtown if you want local energy and better value over a big beach out front.
There are quieter beaches than the reputation suggests. Head west to Love Beach or south toward Adelaide and the crowds thin out fast. A short drive gets you sand that feels far more Out-Island than the busy strip.
December through April is peak: dry, breezy, and busy, with the highest rates. May and June bring warm water, thinner crowds, and softer prices. July through November is cheapest but falls in hurricane season, so travel with flexible cancellation.
