Yes, with the right base. Governor's Harbour suits families best for its calm beaches, services, and central location. Harbour Island works for older kids who love the beach and can handle a slower, boutique pace. Remote South Eleuthera is better for adventurous families comfortable with long drives and fewer amenities.
On mainland Eleuthera, yes — it is long and spread out, and sights are far apart. On Harbour Island you don't: the island is tiny and everyone gets around by golf cart, which most rentals include or can arrange.
Harbour Island is a small, chic island just off North Eleuthera, reached by a short ferry — famous for pink sand and boutique cottages. Eleuthera is the long mainland: quieter, cheaper, and more varied, from Governor's Harbour's culture to the wild, empty south. Many travelers split their stay.
Governor's Harbour is the best all-round first base — central, walkable, with beaches on both coasts and the famous Friday fish fry. Add a few nights on Harbour Island if you want the pink-sand postcard, and venture south only if empty beaches are the priority.
May and June are ideal: warm water, thin crowds, and softer prices. December through April is the dry, breezy peak at the highest rates, and Harbour Island books up early. July through November is cheapest but is hurricane season, so keep cancellation flexible.
